Hello IFG and other TalkOnly hosts,
Since you guys are not playing any songs, can you folks LOWER the Bitrates
of your broadcasts and program archives?
Currently, it appears your live broadcast with Real Player is streaming at
48 kbps, and at 84 kbps with Windows Media Player. Comparatively, RTHK-1
is broadcasting live on the internet only at 20.7 kbps and their sound quality
is quite good. TalkOnly's much higher streaming bitrate is straining listeners
with older computers and/or slower internet connection. Overseas audience
like me is adversely affected in particular.
Similarly, your program archives are encoded at 56 kbps which is
much higher than RTHK's 20.8 kbps and MyRadio's 24 kbps. This means
the File Size of every segment of your program archives is HUGE. Couple
with an unstable server with limited capacity, downloading TalkOnly program
archives from afar becomes an extremely frustrating task! I say, perhaps
98% of the time, downloading would be completed immaturely!
Shrinking the file size will definitely help. Alternatively, please consider
uploading your archives to Sendspace, U-File, .... etc.
Another problem with your program archives is that segments older than
the current week CANNOT be downloaded by right-clicking the mouse
button. This means your audience CANNOT use "Save Target As" and
specify a particular directory to store the file.
These older archives can still be downloaded by left-clicking the segment name.
However, the file will be stored in one of the many Temporary Internet File folders,
forcing your audience to search for its exact location later. Another drawback is,
without a download popup window, your audience cannot monitor the file transfer
progess/process. |
